I've wanted to try a new format for audiobooks for a long time. Always toyed with the idea of making audio chapters somewhat visual and finally, this creative process is showing first results!
The past two months, I've been selecting, adjusting and experimenting with AI voices on the novel chapters. While some were a bit disappointing in terms of conveying emotions, others really impressed me. This goes especially for the narrator voice I've picked. It gave the narration that brilliant, old-fashioned crime / detective atmosphere and bit of a Jack the Ripper / Sherlock Holmes narrator vibe, at least for me.
One has to admire these old formats of storytelling. They had and still have their very unique character, partially borrowing from writing styles like reports or documentaries. Combined with a slightly unsettling sound of voice, this can be an incredible tool for horror and thriller narrations. Also blends surprisingly soothing with other genres like dark fantasy.
